Financial Planning for Couples and Families

Two incomes, a home loan, a child or one on the way, parents who may need support, and investments started on different apps at different times. Most couples who call us are not short of money; they are short of one picture that shows whether it all adds up. The plan puts both incomes, every goal and every policy on one page and says what to keep, what to stop and what to start.

What couples and families usually bring to the call

Too many funds and no direction

Ten or fifteen schemes across two or three apps, some bought on a friend's tip, some through a bank, often several doing the same job. The plan maps each holding to a goal, shows the overlap and says which to continue, which to stop adding to and which to exit, with the tax cost of each exit.

Insurance bought as an investment, cover still thin

Policies sold by a relative or a bank often cost a lot and cover little. Life cover should match the income and the loans the family would have to replace; health cover should include both sets of parents if they depend on you. The plan sizes both and says what to do with existing policies.

Prepay the home loan or invest the surplus

Prepaying a loan is a sure saving of its interest rate; investing is a higher but uncertain return. The answer depends on the rate, the years left, your emergency fund and your other goals, and it can change when rates move. The plan works it out with your numbers rather than a rule of thumb.

Children's education and parents' care at the same time

School and college costs rise faster than general inflation, and parents' medical costs tend to arrive in the same years. The plan gives each goal its own amount, date and investment mix, so one is not quietly funded by raiding the other.

Two people, one decision

When only one partner manages the money, the other often does not know where it is or what the plan is. We encourage both to join the calls; the written plan lists every account, policy and nominee so either of you can act on it.

How we plan for a couple

  1. One data sheet for the household: both incomes, expenses, loans, every investment and every policy, with the goals you agree on.
  2. A goal list with amounts and dates: children's education, a home, parents' care, retirement for both of you.
  3. A clean-up of existing investments: what to keep, stop or exit, mapped to the goals, with the tax effect.
  4. Life and health cover sized for the family, and a decision on each existing policy.
  5. A monthly saving split across goals, and a clear answer on loan prepayment versus investing.
  6. A review after six months and email support through the year, with both partners welcome on every call.

Questions couples and families ask us

Should both of us join the call?

Yes, if you can. The plan covers the whole household, and decisions stick better when both partners have heard the reasoning. If one of you cannot join, we share the plan so you can go through it together.

We have many funds on different apps. Do we have to move them?

No. You keep your accounts where they are. The plan says which holdings to continue and which to stop or exit; you act on it on the apps you already use.

Do you cover our parents too?

The fee covers a couple with children. Parents' risk appetite and goals can be different, so they are not covered under the same plan. We do review their health cover as part of your plan.

Should we prepay the home loan?

It depends on the loan rate, the years left, your emergency fund and your other goals. The plan works it out with your numbers and revisits it at the review if rates change.

What does the plan cost?

₹15,000 for the first year and ₹7,500 a year to renew, both including GST, for the couple with children. No percentage of assets, no commission.
