Abhishek Kumar said today's debit card differs from that of a few years ago, with better security and spending controls, and that it gives customers who prefer not to borrow a flexible tool without credit exposure.

Outlook Money reports that debit cards in circulation grew at their fastest pace in five years, as banks add rewards, premium features and stronger security. Spending is shifting to fewer but higher-value transactions, and debit cards allow larger payments than UPI's daily cap while avoiding borrowing.
