What Abhishek Kumar said

Which corporate actions actually add value for shareholders?

In my view, real value comes from mergers and acquisitions that deliver genuine synergies, buybacks made while the share is undervalued, and payouts from cash-rich companies that have few avenues left for growth. These actions change something real for shareholders and investors, unlike moves that only look good on paper.

Do stock splits and bonus issues make shareholders richer?

Not by themselves. Stock splits, bonus issues and buybacks carried out only to lift earnings per share, without any improvement in the company's fundamentals, do not create value for shareholders. What matters is whether the underlying business is actually getting stronger, not the corporate action itself.

Why do share prices swing so much around corporate actions?

Quite often these events move a stock's price far more than its fundamentals justify. Fear of missing out kicks in, and swings in individual stocks can multiply during such periods, so the price action ends up disconnected from any real change in the business. I see much of that movement as a reaction to the event rather than a change in value.

Are shareholders more involved in corporate decisions now?

Yes. With the internet and social media, investors have become more engaged and far less indifferent to what is going on in the companies they own. Activist investors now come together in groups and frequently challenge the management, instead of simply accepting whatever the board recommends to them.
